This was a long road getting GTK+ 3 and all the dependencies properly working and there are a lot of people behind this, so thanks to all of them for the hard work. I noticed that the windows installation of Gedit does not come with preinstalled dictionaries for spellchecking (I don't know why), so I found this post that explains how to download and install dictionaries for Gedit on Windows. I am using Gedit, on Windows, to write a Latex document.
